At Cochran’s Ski Club, we’re proud of our dedicated and experienced coaching staff who are committed to developing skilled racers and fostering a love for skiing. Leading our team this season is our new Program Director, Andrew Wagner. Andrew joins us with an extensive ski racing and coaching background that will greatly benefit our club.
Andrew grew up in Michigan, skiing at a small neighborhood ski area, which gives him a unique understanding of the importance of community-based ski programs. He went on to race at Middlebury College, where he became a 5-time All American, demonstrating his exceptional skill and dedication to the sport. Now residing in Jericho with his wife and two boys, Andrew is passionate about continuing the Cochran’s Ski Club mission and is very excited to join us this year as our director and head U14 coach.
We’re confident that under the guidance of Andrew and our coaching team, our athletes will continue to grow, improve, and most importantly, develop a lifelong love for skiing. We look forward to an exciting season of learning, racing, and fun on the slopes!
Our coaching philosophy, guided by “The Cochran Way,” emphasizes not just skill development, but also the joy of skiing and the importance of a supportive community. Our coaches strive to give club kids a sense of accomplishment through improvement in their skiing skills in the context of ski racing, always remembering that the primary purpose of any competitive sport is to have fun.
Our coaches are more than just instructors; they’re mentors who help shape our young athletes both on and off the slopes. They work closely with each racer to develop personalized training and race schedules, ensuring that every athlete can reach their full potential while maintaining a healthy balance with other aspects of their lives.
We’re always interested in meeting potential coaches to complement our existing staff. If you have racing and/or coaching experience, along with the enthusiasm and dedication we’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you. Interested coaches should contact Program Director Andrew Wagner at andrew@cochranskiclub.com.
If you need assistance with equipment – either finding it or paying for it – please don’t hesitate to contact our Program Director, Andrew Wagner at andrew@cochranskiclub.com.
VARA created a guide to help with Alpine Race equipment selection: VARA Equipment Sizing and Tips 2019. And check this too: Helmet shopping tips. All racers will need hard eared helmets to participate in any race. KINCO leather gloves are recommended for the rope tow.
